Hot & Crusty opened its first store in 1980 on Sixty-third Street and Second Avenue. Over the next couple of years, the company opened more stores, building complete bakeries into each one. In 1994, the company granted licenses for the use of the “Hot & Crusty” name. This proved very successful and in 1997, a new company called Hot & Crusty Franchise Corp. was created to franchise new stores. To this end, a central baking facility was acquired in which all bread doughs and pastries are made. All baking is done on a European deck oven, in front of the customers, thus creating interest in the baking activity and enticing diners with a delicious baking aroma. Try ordering for yourself.

Delivery was very slow... the food was supposed to come within 30 minutes, but after an hour had gone by, I called them to figure out what was going on. The manager apologized and said he only had one delivery guy, so I was sympathetic, but still annoyed. When the food finally arrived, my bagel was burnt to the point where I could only eat about half of it. My salad had almost no lettuce in it and the little that was there was limp and not very good. The toppings were ok, except for the fact that they listed the wrong type of olives on their menu (they listed kalamata, but put green olives in the salad). I was somewhat surprised, as I've ordered in person before and never had a problem, but I will likely never order delivery from here again.

I actually think the food is pretty good. I have ordered twice now and would order again. the bread is terrific, the vegetable soup was flavorful and loaded with fresh veggies. My only complaint is the salad. It said the dressing would be on the side and it wasn't. It came wilted with way too much dressing mixed in. Otherwise, I think the salad would have been good. It was full of fresh ingredients.

We took a chance and ordered from this place but we're very sorry we did, and we will never order again. The deli meat on all our sandwiches tasted and smelled bad. We threw them out after eating half. The ceasar salads were ok but there was way too much dressing mixed in with them. When we ordered there was a note that the dressing would be on the side but that was defintely not the case. We should have known with a name like Hot and Crusty so we take part of the blame.
